Care & Help - Anointing of the Sick

Anointing of the Sick

The anointing of the sick is one of the seven sacraments instituted by Christ and administered to bring spiritual and even physical strength during an illness, especially near the time of death. Anointing may be received by baptized Catholics, who have reached the age of reason, are dangerously ill though sickness or old age; before surgery, the elderly if weak, through not dangerously ill; sick children sufficiently mature to be comforted by the Sacrament; and ill persons who have lost consciousness or lost the use of reason, if they would have requested it if they were in possession of their faculties.
At Notre Dame, the Sacrament of Anointing of the sick is offered at a weekend liturgy usually in the spring and fall each year.
If you or a loved one is in need of an anointing by a priest, please contact the Parish Office or fill in the form below. If the situation is critical, call the office directly, at any time 630-654-3365. Please note that because of federal law (HIPPA), hospitals no longer contact our parish with patient information.
