Teen Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is usually the final Sacrament of Initiation that a Catholic receives. However, this Sacrament is in no way an ending in the faith journey of a Catholic. Confirmation is truly the end of the beginning; the beginning of a Catholic’s fully initiated journey toward God through the reception of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The Sacrament of Confirmation continues the grace-filled initiation into full communion in the Roman Catholic Church. Just as parents brought the child, very young, to the Parish church for Baptism in the faith, so now the parents support their child’s efforts in the faith today. The parents are the primary educators in faith; without the advocacy of the parents in the preparation program the Sacrament will be a hollow action. The most important sacramental preparers are the parents.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation at Notre Dame Catholic Church is a two-year process building on the youth’s previous religious education received in the home and at the parish. Youth at Notre Dame are to be enrolled in the parish’s Religious Education program or School for grades 1-6. They are then expected to be actively involved and present at Faith Alive 78 youth meetings in grades 7 and 8 or a Notre Dame school student. Finally, they attend all Confirmation preparation meetings and opportunities in grades 9 and 10. Confirmed teens in grades 11 and 12 have opportunities available to them as Confirmed Catholics, including leadership opportunities, regular meetings, mission trips and service opportunities.
