March 14, Fourth Sunday of Lent
"I will
bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall be ever in my mouth."
Psalm 34: 2-3.
The Holy Season Of Lent
The Holy Season of
Lent, which began on Ash Wednesday, is one that many
Christians cringe at. They view it in a negative way, when the primary
purpose of the season is one of bringing ourselves back to God. Christians,
including Catholics,
believe themselves to be there already, when the reality is that as human
beings we turn from Him either directly or indirectly by our actions. Lent
may be considered as a forty day retreat. "Turning" in the context of Lent
shows itself in outward signs: fasting, almsgiving, and prayer. But the
important "turning" should be inward. Those who fast and pray and give alms
in order to be seen, turn not to the Lord, but to human praise and approval.
The reward they are looking for is the reward they get. But those turning to
God without seeking approval, even from themselves, who give without
letting the left hand see the right, let God measure the reward. "Your
Father who sees in secret will repay you." Mathew: 6:4.
Integrity, honesty
if you will, cannot be bought. It is a gift.
Stations Of The Cross
Stations of the Cross
are celebrated every Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the church.
This traditional practice of saying the "stations" as a body is an important
part of Lent. Please join us. This year we have added music and and a
vocalist to help us to get into the spirit of the stations and Lent.
Note: Stations of the Cross will not occur on Friday, March 26 due to the
Parish Reconciliation Service. Stations will be celebrated on Thursday,
March 25 at 7:00 p.m.
Baptism Not Celebrated
During Lent, the Sacrament of Baptism
is not celebrated according to the regular schedule. The font is drained and
cleaned. Strips of cloths are placed over the font before Ash Wednesday. The
Paschal Candle is hidden and brought out only for the celebration of
funerals.
Reconciliation Service With Private, Individual Confessions
In preparation for Easter, we will
have our "Parish Reconciliation Service" followed by individual
private confessions on Friday, March 26 at 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
There will be additional priests available. This is an excellent opportunity
to make your Easter duty. If you cannot make this service please note
that the "Sacrament of Reconciliation" is available on Saturdays from
4:00-4:45 p.m. or by appointment. There will be no confessions heard on
Holy Saturday, April 3.
