February 7, Fifth Week In
Ordinary Time
"Do not be
afraid; from now on you will be catching men." Luke 5:11
Ordinary Time
We have just finished celebrating
the liturgical seasons of Advent, a time of preparation for Christmas,
followed by the celebration of the glorious and wonderful Feast of
Christmas. Now we are in Ordinary Time. Our liturgical year has times we
celebrate in special ways. There is Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter. Four
important events for all of us to savor and ponder. In between, we have
Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time does not mean that it is a lesser time of the
year. What happens in our churches every Sunday is the fulfillment of our
past week and what happened in that week is the beginning of our new week.
Sunday is just like other sacraments. It is a point of departure from the
old to the new beginning of the week to come, and our continuing journey to
the Kingdom of God. There is nothing ordinary about it at all. It is the
core, the center if you will, of Christian living.

Please Assist Haiti With Used Orthopedic Items
Notre Dame Parish is helping the
Hinsdale Orthopedics volunteers in Haiti by asking for donations of used
orthopedic items. Do you have an old pair of crutches sitting around the
house? How about a cane, walker, brace, boot, sling, splint or other
orthopedic equipment. Not sure what to do with them? Items are being
accepted in the Notre Dame Church Lobby or at the Hinsdale Orthopedics,
located at 550 West Ogden Avenue in Hinsdale. Donate them by Sunday February
14. (No medications or wheel chairs please)
Food Pantry
Needed are any non-perishable foods
and personal hygiene, paper and cleaning products.
Parish Mission !!!! Sunday, February 28 through Wednesday, March 3
A parish mission is an opportunity
for a parish to deepen its faith response to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You
take the risk of coming to know the Lord better in your life. Mark these
dates on your calendar!!!
Internet Safety Presentation
Sarah Migas, Internet Safety
Specialist from the office of the Attorney General, will be at Notre
Dame on Tuesday, February 16 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the O'Keefe Center.
Her presentation will focus on "Keeping Your Kids Safe Online". This
meeting will be for adults only. Anyone interested in attending is

Looking Ahead To Lent
Ash Wednesday, February 17, begins
the "Season of Lent". It is a season of contrition and penance as we
look into ourselves to remind us of our needs of improvement, and also to
tell God of our sorrow of offending Him. On Ash Wednesday, we are marked
with ashes to humble our hearts and remind us that life on earth is short,
and so is the time to repent.
Take the first step and recycle last year's palms. They are sacramentals and
should not be thrown away. They should be disposed of with reverence. The
best way, and the most convenient, is to bring them to church beginning
Monday. They will be burned on "Shrove Tuesday", the Tuesday before Ash
Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. in the traditional "Palm Burning Ceremony" on
the piazza and used on Ash Wednesday.
February 17 Ash Wednesday Schedule
Masses with the distribution of ashes.
7:00 and 8:45 a. m, 12:30, 4:30* and 7:00 p. m.
*This is the Religious Education Mass, but everyone is welcome.
Everyone should also review the "Fast and Abstinence Regulations"
pertaining to the Lenten Season. They are on the
last page of the calendar you received earlier this year and also in the bulletin.

Elaine Koren, we hope all "mature parishioners", 60 and older, will join us
on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month. All are welcome! Questions? Contact Mary Elaine Koren at 630.789.6077.
