The first grade studies the weather all year long. They
mark the daily temperature and chart the weather formations such as cloudy,
windy, sunny, or foggy.
Each quarter they graph how many days of each formation and compare it to the
quarter before and the year before.
During Catholic schools week the first grade did some terrific
experiments with weather. They made weather in a bag. First they put
some blue water into zippered plastic bags. Then the bags were hung on a
sunny window. Soon a cloud of water vapor formed in the bag. When
the bags were take to a cooler location the water vapor collected into droplets
of rain.
Then the class took the bags outside and hung them on a tree, The
temperature that day was about 4 degrees. When the class checked out the
bags a few days later they found that the cloud had frozen into snow and the
drops into hail. It was a really cooooool experiment!
